For Hosts
Preparing for a booking? Review the Host Safety & Insurance Guide.
Yes. Hosts should review their insurance before accepting paid events or productions. A homeowners or commercial policy may not automatically cover short-term venue rentals, events, productions or other commercial activity.
Contact your insurance provider and explain how you plan to use your property. Ask whether your current policy provides appropriate liability and property protection, and discuss any exclusions, limits or additional coverage with a licensed insurance professional.
VenueMagnet does not provide insurance coverage and cannot determine whether your existing policy is adequate. Learn more in our Safety & Payments FAQs.
Yes. Hosts may require guests to provide a Certificate of Insurance before the booking begins. State your insurance requirements clearly in your listing rules and confirm them with the guest through VenueMagnet messages before accepting the booking.
Depending on your insurance provider's recommendations, you may also ask for yourself, the property owner, property manager or another appropriate party to be named as Additional Insured. Confirm the required coverage and documentation with your insurance professional.
A COI provides insurance information; it does not create or change coverage. Additional Insured coverage depends on the policy and applicable endorsements. Neither guarantees that a particular claim will be covered. VenueMagnet does not verify or provide insurance coverage.
Review the booking details with the guest and prepare the property before the booking begins:
- Confirm the planned activity, attendance or crew count, and vendors.
- Discuss alcohol, equipment, vehicles, parking and load-in arrangements.
- Confirm any required insurance documentation, including a COI and applicable Additional Insured endorsements, with your insurance professional.
- Secure valuables and identify or lock off-limit areas.
- Photograph or video the property's condition before arrival.
- Identify and disclose known hazards, remove obvious hazards, and confirm that emergency exits are accessible and unobstructed.
- Confirm occupancy limits, house rules, cleanup expectations, booking times and overtime rules.
- Share emergency contacts and access instructions, and keep important agreements in VenueMagnet messages.
Hosts are responsible for their property's safety and applicable requirements. VenueMagnet does not inspect venues or certify their safety. For emergencies, contact emergency services first.
