O’Fallon has grown into one of the Metro East’s larger communities because transportation and military activity have shaped it for generations. Scott Air Force Base, established as Scott Field during World War I, became a major economic and social influence, while Interstate 64 later strengthened the city’s retail, hotel and commuter connections toward St. Louis. Historic downtown still provides a smaller-scale center, and O’Fallon Station and the Vine Street Market have added new public activity there. For companies, associations and organizations drawing guests from both sides of the region, planners can begin with
O'Fallon corporate and networking venues and decide whether downtown character or interstate convenience should lead the search. O’Fallon also has a long civic-park tradition, including Community Park and newer recreation spaces that reflect how quickly the city expanded after World War II.
